A student arriving after this will receive a late mark.
A student arriving after 8:30am will receive an unauthorised late mark

If a student is absent for any reason you must:

Call the absence line, 01582 652600 each day and give a reason for the absence.
If the absence is prolonged, you will be asked to provide medical evidence or proof of medication before staff will consider authorising the absence
Please note itis school staff who authorise absence and not Parents/|Carers

Statistically young people who attend school more than 95% each academic year are more likely to achieve in excess of 5 A* to C grades at GCSE. They are more likely to go on to further education and earn a higher salary as adults

RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCE

One day’s absence for religious observance will be authorised. This is for each day of a religious festival only and must be requested in advance. You will not be allowed extra days for travel or for preparations for the festivities.

APPOINTMENTS

Only hospital appointmentS will be authorised

All Appointments for dentist, opticians, doctors etc. must be made out of school hours or will result in an unauthorized absence.

PENALTY NOTICE PROCESS

LMHS fully support the use of the legal process to maximise school attendance and give young people the best chance of success.

Penalty Notice Warning letters will be issued when a young person has 8 or more sessions of unauthorised absence (4 days or 8 half days or a combination of both)

If there is further unauthorised absence Parents/Carers will be issued with a penalty notice fine of £60 per adult per child rising to £120 per adult per child if this remains unpaid after 21 days.

If this also remains unpaid Parents/Carers will be prosecuted for the unauthorised absence in the Magistrate’s Court.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE

From September 2013 there is no entitlement to authorised absence for a family holiday.  Leave of absence will only be considered in extenuating circumstances, and at the discretion of the Headteacher.

Penalty Notice fines of £60 per child per adult in the home will be issued on return, if this is not authorised.

The fine will increase to £120 per adult if left unpaid beyond 21 days and will also result in prosecution in the magistrate’s court if not paid at all.

If there are extenuating circumstances and absence cannot be avoided during term time you

must apply on the appropriate application form.

Please note for all absences, the decision to authorise or not remains with school staff and NOT the Young person or the Parent/Carer.

REMOVAL FROM ROLL

Please note the school can remove the name of any pupil who is absent from the school for more than 20 days without prior authorisation after not returning from leave.

UNAUTHORISED LATE ATTENDANCE

If a young person arrives at school after 8:30am he/she will be recorded as unauthorised late attendance.

Persistent lateness will incur a penalty notice warning letter and subsequent fines being imposed.

If a student is late due to a medical appointment this will only be authorised if proof of the appointment is given to the Attendance Officer eg Appointment card or hospital letter.

NB:  Medical and dental appointments should be made after 3.00pm at the end of the school day or during school holidays..
