George Barnard (11H) had fantastic success in a summer of athletics after scooping four medals in shot put and discus.
George competed in the British Athletics Championship in a weekend of events on the 29th and 30th of August. In stunning performances in both throwing events, George received gold medals. He now holds the British Under 17s record for shot put and discus. George said "It feels unreal. I knew I was in the top 5 of the country, better never dreamed I would hit the top spot."
In addition to this success, George also competed in the International School Games in September and managed to secure silver in his seated events.
He was thrilled to get the opportunity to see Ellie Simmonds, Paralympic swimmer, Hannah Cockroft MBE and British sprinter Dina Asher-Smith at the opening ceremony.
"I am feeling really proud and thankful for all of the support I have had from my parents, coaches and the many others who have taken an interest. It has been a big season with lots of competitions and I am really pleased with how I've performed."
A huge congratulations to George from all at Lea Manor!
