During February half term, ‘Tina’s School of Dance’ held their annual dance show at Barnfield South Academy. Celebrating the school’s 20th anniversary last year in 2015, Tina’s School of Dance teaches a variety of dance styles to all ages whether they wish to pursue dance as an enjoyable hobby or future career option. There are several Lea Manor students in the dance troupe and the performances are well attended by parents and friends.
I see dance as an escape from reality and exam work, as well as helping build my confidence and making new friends. Since the age of 5, I have been attending TSD and always enjoy participating in the yearly dance shows the most.
Every year, the show has a theme, meaning that we dance to songs from a specific genre or category. For example, in previous years, we have had themes including ‘At the Movies’, ‘In the 80’s’, ‘Around the World’ and, my favourite year, ‘Disney and friends’! This year, the theme was ‘Alternative’ which, at first, many of us dancers didn’t quite understand! Nevertheless, some of the many songs included ‘Surface’ by Aero Chord, ‘Hamburg Song’ by Keane and my favourite song out of the whole show (I wasn’t even part of this dance, I just enjoyed watching my friends performing) was ‘Silent Running’, the cover version performed by Hidden Citizens.
Due to the huge demand for tickets, the show was performed twice over two days, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st February, with the Sunday show being a full house! We were even lucky enough to have a few current Lea Manor pupils arrive to watch the Sunday performance that bagged them a raffle prize at the end of the show!
The show was a great success filled with laughter, emotional tears and lots of hairspray!
