With new facilities, an exciting new curriculum and significant investment in equipment, PE is an ever developing and changing department at Lea Manor High School.
We strive to deliver a modern experience of PE where ALL students are actively involved in lessons. The experienced team ensures that this happens by offering the traditional roles of practical participation and also by increasing opportunities in leadership, refereeing, umpiring and coaching other students and even staff.
The formula for success in PE is simple: students are expected to bring their full PE kit to every lesson and the teaching staff will support them in improving their physical fitness, strengthening their listening skills, developing key communication and teamwork ideas and, most of all, enjoying being active!
Depending on interest and aspirations, students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in sport academically through GCSE PE or NCFE Level 2 in Health and Fitness and practically by representing the school during fixtures, competitions and after-school clubs.
PE does not only push students physically! The lessons, assignments and homework tasks will also stretch their mind and lifelong learning skills.
Students will literally hit the ground running in Year 7, as they try new sports, are challenged through new drills and put their skills into competitive situations. Over the coming months and years, students will experience new sports and compete within a variety of teams.
As well as continuing with core PE lessons, students can also opt for an academic route in PE. Our courses in GCSE PE and the NCFE Level Two in Health and Fitness cover topics such as health and fitness, the benefits of exercise, fitness testing, the cardiovascular and respiratory systems as well as the muscular system.
It is hoped that all students will be able to look back at the end of their school career and be able to identify the progress they have made physically, mentally and socially with the desire to continue physical activity into adulthood.
Lea Manor sets the challenge!
It is natural that some students will share the staff’s competitive nature and will want to compete and win. The Luton Schools offer a varied and active league system and in addition to this, students are entered into both County and Regional competitions.
